I think it is funny how the media and government is acting like this is some utterly unique singular event. Remember a few years ago when the “White Israeli Union” neo-Nazi group had its website taken down? With all the video of the neo-Nazis - giving the Hitler salute in their full IDF uniforms - talking about how to kill the Arabs for practice and how not to act like a “zhid” (Jew, in Russian)? Or then there were the skinhead gangs stormtrooping through Tel Aviv a few years ago too. Anyone who follows the “The Israeli Information and Assistance Center for the Victims of Anti-Semitism” ( http://pogrom.org.il/ ) which monitors neo-Nazis in Israel regularly knows this most recent event isn’t particularly unique. The problem is that the government and police “turn a blind eye” to Israeli neo-Nazis which gives them freedom to expand. Rest assured this cell isn’t all of them.

Here we have another aspect of Israel’s demographic crisis. In the rush to import olim whose only real criteria is they are not Arab or Muslim it can’t come as any surprise that that managed to import traditional Russian anti-Semites too. Most of these kids are Russians who were brought to Israel by their parents against their will, they don’t want to be Israeli and never did. HOWEVER, in the end, if Israel had not imported the million plus Russians - many, or even most, of them non-Jewish - then the non-Arab population between the river and the sea would already be a definite minority to the Arab population. There just aren’t enough legitimate Jews to maintain the current “Greater Israel,” thus the floods of non-Jewish olim, the mass conversions of Ethiopians, Indians, and Peruvian Indians, and so on. These measures - the desperation for any non-Arab/Muslim immigrants - undermines the “Jewish character” of Israel just as surely as any compromise with the native Palestinians would.

I guess the external pressure seems to force Israel to ‘create’ quite a few paradox measures and situations.

As cycnical as it may sound - but as a german I am ‘happy’ that anti-semtitism is to be found everywhere. Not to say we still have problems with nazis and xenophobic people around here as well.

It’s so strange: in an ever more globalized world some people get ever more desparate and agressive. And it’s till young poor guys that fall prey to these ideas.

Thanks for the comment. If course it is a shame there are Nazis anywhere in the XXIst century, but you’re right; Germany certainly has no monopoly on it. As a Jewish-American who did live in Germany for a couple years (near Heidelberg), Germany is no better or worse than any other Western country when it comes to Neo-Nazis. However, at least Germany has laws that makes it illegal, which is more than Israel has. As noted before, there is nothing “new” about Neo-Nazis in Israel - they is an entire NGO set up to monitor them - but usually they save their violence for Palestinians and don’t attack Jews and that is the big difference here.

Well, Germany is of course extra sensitive regarding anti-semitism - in my personal opinion even hysterical about it.

As much as we can complain about today’s problems with xenophobia and hate in general one thing has improved: it is no longer as much tolerated as it used to be.

Sure - anti-semitism in many arabic countries is sometimes even state sponsored, but it is no longer accepted everywhere. So the human race is making progress.

But the fear of ‘the others’ is almost genetically imprinted into us. Until our global societies are better mixed (racially) this won’t go away - but like I said - we are making progress.

Look at Europe: the Germans no longer believe the French eat children - and protestants and catholic no longer kill each other (except in Ireland). If you look back a couple of hundred years it was VERY different.

So in that respect call me a progressive pessimist. Today’s Nazis will be there tomorrow, but their ‘breeding ground’ will get smaller and smaller.

Many Jews Share Natzi beliefs. Especially in Israel. The auchswitz of today (yr 2000 and beyond) is the mass killing of arab palistines by Israelis. I mean Israel have taken many things used against them in WWII and use it against other countries and people today. Its not surprising that Israel have there own kind turning against them, there country was built on bloodshed even more so then other countrys. Have you ever read The Taura? its one violent book, all about killing people who are not the chosen people….. Book of evil…

Most religions and dogmas user the mechanismen of “the others” as a excuse to create external enemies and crate fear to keep it’s people together. Very sad …

I guess Israel is very afraid of being extingished - and fear always creates violence.
