‘Social dancing’ has almost disappeared in our modern world. It used to be one of the most favorite pastimes and social evens in human society. Today clubs are just jumping and fun affairs - but lack all the development and culture of dancing. We are not performing art here - like Ballet or Opera. No just simple ballroom dancing or folk dances.

Have we lost the social element of expressing ourselves gracefully by social dancing - apart from staggering around drunk on companies xmas parties? How people move and dance can you tell a lot about them - if you explore that path too. Harmony is not just a mental and emotional thing - it can also be a physical exploration of mutually shared movement …

Maybe it’s a pace of life issue. Dancing used to be a social event, so was going to the park to promenade, stroll along, etc. Now dancing clubs are high-energy places and going to the park is to entertain the kids on the play structures or go run or some other exercise crammed in between some other activity.

@brad: That is an interesting aspect. It’s all about speed these days - and there is even such a thing as speed dating … and casual sex …
