President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad - Sir you have my respect!

Iran Ahmadinejad at Columbia University

BBC News: Iran president in NY campus clash

I am not a big fan of Mr Ahmadinejad, but I am also not a big fan of Hypocrisy. It takes some guts to follow an invitation to ‘discuss’ political issues with a crowd of people who are fiercely aggressive and hostile to you.

Can anyone imagine Mr Bush flying to Tehran and having the same talk with Persian students? Nope.

If the Head of a foreign nation comes to visit you - you should show him some manners and courtesy - even when you consider him an enemy. He was democratically elected. He has certainly very different and sometimes odd opinions about History and current affairs - like Bush. He of course pushes his countries agenda and supports his allies (like Hamas) - like Bush supports Israel and many other nations. He pays for some freedom fighters bombs and guns - just like the US does.

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad

Yeah, I’ll give a foreign Head of State some shit …

The USA won’t impress him nor the world by insulting him and treating him without the courtesy his position demands. And you hardly score any points for being more civilized.

I also saw the 60 Minutes interview done by CBS - and it was rather insulting too. I wish they would interview their own President and politicians the same way.

I am all for speaking truth to power, but you have to do a bit smarter, otherwise it simply sounds like a simpletons whining and leashing out at complexity.

Foreign politics is a complicated subject. That is why diplomacy was invented. And it should always be done by smart people.

Mr Ahderkajihad is an elected puppet head of state that will do the bidding of his Islamic Theocratic leaders. He is for the destruction of Israel and ultimately a one world caliphate. Other than the fact that he could represent Stalin and Hitler combined what respect should a bloody human rights abuser receive. I know the left just love him for his attacks on President Bush. Ahmadinejad was not coming here for the consumption of a western audience. He gets to take the edited footage back for propaganda purpose’s. There is no vaunted freedom of speech when it comes to the state controlled media. This is going to come off as the brave attempt to convert the enemy to Islam before you start a just and Holy Jihad.

Ahmadinejad is crazy like a fox and it matters little what disrespect he had to endure as long as the faithful back home get there spoon feeding of gobshite.

Ben

I dont see what everyone is so pissed about with him coming here. I mean yes he is a pretty shitty guy, but come on hes a politician what do you expect? I agree he should be treated with some respect, or at least more intelligent disrespect.

The best analogy I can think of is the old saying: “we’ll give him a fair trial before we hang him.”

@Jackanapes: First of all thanks for your comment.

Oh, I agree with all your statements:

He is evil.
He is not a real domcrat.
He is not the absolute leader of his country.
He will use this as propaganda.

Now here comes the weird bit about diplomacy and and etiquette. You treat even mad people and criminals like decent persons and you honor their ‘position’. I know kinda weird.

Attacking Ahmadinejad just gave him the fodder he needed to rally people behind the flag. Most people get patriotic if their country or culture gets attacked - even when they hate or dislike their current head of state.

I think less hate and idiotic screaming would have helped to show Ahmadinejad like he is. Nothing is more embarassing if madness shows itself in face of calm confrontation. When both sides scream you hear only noise …

@Ben: Thanks for your comment!

“more intelligent disrespect” - I like that - it’s exactly what I tried to express with way too much words. Thanks for bringing it to a point.

Mr Ahmadinejad is using the media to control public opinion. Anyone who has been to the middle east knows his goals which have nothing to do with honor or peace.

The only stand Americans can take with the middle east is one of dominance and power, unless you want to learn a new language.

@Nvrenuf: Thanks for your comment - although I amnot really sure what you are trying to tell me?

Mr Ahmadinejad is using the media to control public opinion.

Every politcian does that. I guess Iranian TV is state controlled anyway he has can say what he wants.

Anyone who has been to the middle east knows his goals which have nothing to do with honor or peace.

Nobody thinks that. And I certainly didn’t write that.

The only stand Americans can take with the middle east is one of dominance and power, unless you want to learn a new language.

Sorry, but this is simply nonsense. The US has taken that almighty stance and tried so called ‘hard power’ for decades:

Afghanistan: The Taliban have been created with American money and military support. And now the US fights the Taliban, because all that war mongering and power play has gotten out of hand.

Saudi Arabia: For decades the US has supported the House of Saud and protected it. They even stationed troops in the holy land of the muslims. That is EXACTLY the point that pissed of Osama bin Laden and many of the Wahabist Fundmentalists.

Egypt: A corrupt government with Us support that tortures it’s own people. The US provides economic aid, weapons and dollars.

Iraq: Once had a democratically elected government - it was overthrown by people like Saddam. The US supported Saddam his war against

Iran. Delivered weapons and military intelligence. When Saddam later - even after announcing it to America - invaded Kuwait he gone ‘too far’.

Iran: The CI and MI6 (if I am not mistaken) installed the Shah over another democratically elected government. Once again America supported the brutal regieme with dollars and weapons (guess why the Iranian Airforce has F-14?). The reason why the Iranians are so pissed and distrust he US is because America has again and again meddled in it’s internal affairs - and that was way before it became a fundamentalist muslim country.

Bombing people and trying to dominate everyone simply doesn’t work in the longterm. It didn’t work in Vietnam and it left a mess in Korea as well.

The Soviet Union was a big threat - there was a real danger that it would overrun Europe one day. But Iran won’t conquer Europe, nor will Muslims in general take over the world. That’s all rubbish.
