Oktoberfest 2007

wa_oktoberfest_2007_tired_kid

Munich is once again Barfing Capitol of the civilized world. Already over one million people have stormed the Oktoberfest to enjoy mass hysteria and a good time with many other drunks.

I grew up here, so I know it all, seen it all and done it all (barfing on a rollercoaster is a lot of fun for all those behind you).

wa_oktoberfest_2007_boris

Yeah, I am here for the culture too …

Since the early nineties the Oktoberfest has mutated into a total party zone. The traditional Lederhosen and Dirndls have been replaced with trendy and mostly slutty imitations. Drinking has become a martial art. And since all the beer tents are overrun and closed down almost immediately after they opened - it is almost impossible to get seats just for short visit.

The once enjoyable family has been replaced by disco anthems, combat drinking and fake tradition. Basically a yodelling tourist trap - that can be recreated anywhere.

So much for the original Oktoberfest …

Let’s get white brownie!

wa_brown_faces_to_white

BBC News: Beyond the pale?

Although Asian countries like India, China and Japan had their problems with European colonialism the white men’s influence still reigns supreme.

In China and Japan woman get plastic surgery to look more Caucasian, brown Asians dye their skins to look paler. It’s also amazing how many ‘blonde’ Asian girls are out there.

Success is to be rich enough to afford such ‘improvements’ and join the westernized middle class.

I find this highly ironic, since pale westerners roast their skins on sunbeds and use other cremes to look browner.

Nevermind vanity. It once again shows that people are willing to do almost anything to belong to the ‘majority’. Whatever happened to ‘vive la difference’?

Yellowstone Caldera - Supervolcano ready to blow?

nature_Vulcano_yellowstone

Volcanoes have always been a threat to humanity - although more on a local then a global scale. But scientist just recently discovered so called supervolcanos (for some good information visit this BBC section). Their eruption could devastate huge areas and influence global climate. If this thing blow Mount St. Helen will look like a tiny firecracker.

So is the end near? Nobody knows for sure. Seismic and volcanic observations are made constantly and the area is certainly active, but there are clear indicators if this thing goes off tomorrow or in a thousand years.

Those perverts and child molesters! Suck their brains out …

science_brain_inverted

BBC News:  Pedophiles’ brains ‘different’

We have just begun to understand ourselves, how our brains and our minds work. Psychology and neuro sciences are pretty young.

Chemical imbalance, a small injury or a tumor can totally change your personality - your desires and moral judgement.

I think neither our justice system or society care about these insights. We often consider terrible things like Pedophilia a choice. In some cases it might be - but we are all slaves to our brains. Even ‘normal’ people can totally run amok when their brains get whacked.

We need more science on this, better laws and understanding of ourselves. In this area there are no simple answers.

Kitsch Cows

modern_pink_cow_kitsch

After several billion years of evolution we are finally able to produce pink kitsch cows?

The real strength and weakness of the human race is it’s diversity, ranging from high culture and spiritual dedication to mindless violence and egocentric kitsch.

This is sometimes hard to remember when seeing such an object …

An elephant and his mahut are a special kind of family. Sometimes when beloved work elephants die, people erect little temples in their honor. Too bad we hardly have any personal relationship to nature and the other inhabitants of this great planet.

On the other side - I can’t build a temple for every McChicken, Cow and Fish I ate …

Gracious musicals and most of all dance movies have completely disappeared. No more Ginger & Fred shows. Nobody cares about singing and dancing in movies anymore. And Hip Hop movies and MTV video clips are not the same thing.

Innocent Minds?

psyche_Innocent_babies

We still consider babies and little kids as symbols of innocence and purity. But can a ‘blank’ mind in training be considered innocent unless it has developed it’s full potential?

What I find even more odd is the overall desire to be ‘good’ and be ‘clean’ - without any spots on your soul/mind. To accept your own power and potential in an ‘unfair’ and ‘uneven’ universe you have to get ‘your hands dirty’. The desire to stay clean sounds rather like cowardice not to get involved.

But what’s the point of having a mind and not using it to get involved? What’s the point of being alive, if you don’t muddle with your own existence and power?

Europe’s almost death

historica_knights_at_war

Until the late 12th century almost any cultural life or innovation had died in Europe. Christian mysticism and symbolism had completely taken over all the great minds. Thanks to the Arabs and many wars we started to exchange ideas again and rediscover lost authors and wisdom of Greek and Roman origin.

Not only animals, but also culture, art and science can be completely eradicated. Beware of religious fundamentalism, it won’t tolerate any knowledge beside itself and keep it’s followers dumb.

Some Madness from time to time is very healthy. It’s the minds defense mechanism against unbearable feelings or moments. Madness is a way to cope with the real insanity outside. It’s like a mental flu, brain fever or soul burning! Go thru the darkness of madness to cleanse yourself of false limits, rules and obligations. Free yourself by going bonkers!

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad - Sir you have my respect!

Iran Ahmadinejad at Columbia University

BBC News: Iran president in NY campus clash

I am not a big fan of Mr Ahmadinejad, but I am also not a big fan of Hypocrisy. It takes some guts to follow an invitation to ‘discuss’ political issues with a crowd of people who are fiercely aggressive and hostile to you.

Can anyone imagine Mr Bush flying to Tehran and having the same talk with Persian students? Nope.

If the Head of a foreign nation comes to visit you - you should show him some manners and courtesy - even when you consider him an enemy. He was democratically elected. He has certainly very different and sometimes odd opinions about History and current affairs - like Bush. He of course pushes his countries agenda and supports his allies (like Hamas) - like Bush supports Israel and many other nations. He pays for some freedom fighters bombs and guns - just like the US does.

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad

Yeah, I’ll give a foreign Head of State some shit …

The USA won’t impress him nor the world by insulting him and treating him without the courtesy his position demands. And you hardly score any points for being more civilized.

I also saw the 60 Minutes interview done by CBS - and it was rather insulting too. I wish they would interview their own President and politicians the same way.

I am all for speaking truth to power, but you have to do a bit smarter, otherwise it simply sounds like a simpletons whining and leashing out at complexity.

Foreign politics is a complicated subject. That is why diplomacy was invented. And it should always be done by smart people.

Franz von Stuck - The Kiss of the Sphinx

art_franz_von_stuck-The_Kiss_of_the_Sphinx

I am actually very surprised that I hardly posted any paintings from this great Artist. First of all his style is dark, brutal and sensual - just adore it. You’ll hardly find another painter with such simple compositions, but such honest and direct execution of his stories.

Second - he is part of the Munich Secessions - so that’s home - so expect some more Stuck in this blog.
