Saturday - dark nights

Still stuck mostly in work - but I have a big backlog to get rid off. And in the dark, cold and snowy days I don’t want to go outside anyway. God, I hate snow.

More human Power to energize all our digital Gadgets!

digital_windup_charger

This is a great product: a small windup to recharge your cell without using any electricity plug. Since we hardly have enough exercise these days cranking up your gadgets could be a new fitness fad.

I would love to be a hand cranked geek!

But small electronics can also be charged by small solar panels like MySolidus.

Chemical Enhancements

Prozac Penis Nation - we are still to much ruled by our chemicals. When will be learn to influence our psyche by ourselves through mental exercises and proper food instead of external chemicals, medication and party drugs?

How about an enlightenment pill?

Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres - Jupiter and Thetis (1811)

art_Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres_Jupiter_and_Thetis_1811

Click image for an even mightier Jupiter.

What a monumental moment - although Jupiter (the Roman version of Zeus) looks a bit like wearing a wig? I love Ingres for his dramatic and powerful style. His creations have the same quality like movies - Ben Hur and the like.

You feel like being in the presence of Jupiter - almost touching that godly aura of his. And just in case you are wondering who Thetis is … visit this Wikipedia entry.

Why are there so few funny woman - and why are most Comedians Guys?

modern_women-and_cds

Is there such a thing as a gender gap in humor?! When I look at my personal experience as well as pop culture there are hardly any funny women around. When you look at the list of great and funny entertainers of the last twenty years - you hardly find any females in the business. Why?!

Some people attribute guys humor as a last resort to get himself a woman anyway. Even if you are ugly as hell you can’t impress the chicks if you are funny guy. Woman love funny guys.

But does that work for women as well? Does a funny ugly woman get laid, just because she can impress with her humor? I doubt it.

Socia–Biology as the real reason behind the humor gender gap?

modern_funny_female_faces

Maybe it’s also a chick thing not to embarrass themselves in front of others? Guys have no problem farting and belching in front of a big audience. It’s a guy thing alright. But women don’t fart (loudly) and they don’t make jokes or funny faces either. At least not many. And most women don’t seem to know funny stuff or are willing to perform any practical jokes.

modern_bunch_of_clowns

It could be an historical thing: women were not allowed to act in certain cultures. Female roles were playing by guys like in Japan, China and many parts of Europe. Also the Clowns and Jesters were mostly a male affair.

But the woman are slowly catching up in TV, movies and real life. I love Tina Fey’s writing and acting in ‘30 Rock’ … but she is still a minority compared to the Stephen Colberts, John Stewards and Stephen Frys of this planet …

The Housewife Myth

myth_housewife

Woman are much better then men running the household. Nah, it’s just old traditional thinking. So many modern women can’t cook, can’t organize, still hate ironing and are as sloppy as guys.

ESC from your digital lifestyle

digital_esc_from_your_computer

The Internet is Dante’s new inferno - a Hell Hole without escape. We will never be able to watch all videos on YouTube, click all Stumbles, dig all links on Digg and enjoy all the Billion image on Flickr … not to speak of terabytes of terabytes of links that haven’t been officially classified as cool.

So is your thirst for more only a hunger for entertainment, stimulation for your own thoughts or simply boredom?

Overall a dedicated surfer will encounter the same topics, meme and styles again and again. How many cute dogs will really touch you? How many times do you want to read that George Bush is a disaster? How many times do you want to see mad people filming themselves doing funny, but stupid things?

Are we all became pavlovian Dogs - reacting with the right reflexes? With a nice ‘Awwww’ for the nice doggy. With a ‘Buuuh’ for stupid politicians. With a ‘Cooooool, Dude!’ when people try to kill themselves in a entertaining way.

You are not what you click, you are what you do.

Do something real.

Do we need a Cell Phone Shop at every fucking Street Corner?

modern-cell-phone-shop_2

Ok, it began with fast food and pizza restaurants. Grabbing a bite in our hectic days makes sense, having the same boring food all over the world doesn’t.

Then came the Coffee Shops to give us the extra needed caffeine kick and sugar rush - plus some free wireless access. Well, still makes sense - although I hate the standard Ikea-Starbucks nesting instinct that’s developing globally.

But who needs a cell phone store - one for each provider - on every highstreet? It’s not that we need a daily supply of ‘phonettes’, batteries or ‘call minutes’?! We maybe upgrade our phone once a year or change our contracts maybe every two?

These shops are there mostly for presence, marketing and showing off their brand. I rather have some good old sandwich shops or some other specialized merchant that sells anything BUT a cell phone, a burger or a Latte.

Our inner cities have lost their unique mix of local shops and retailers. Almost all over the planet the big shopping centers offer the same crap from the same crappy companies. So much about free markets, choice for the consumer and competition.

How well do you know your own bodily Excretions?

modern_white_toilet

Have a quick peek before flushing - might save you a trip to the doctors later …

Your urine, stool and sweat are important indicators of your health. One would think that understanding your own bodily functions should be common knowledge and taught in school - like sex education.

The smell, consistency, amount, color and the shape (of stool) can tell you a lot about your health. Not to mention flatulence and constipation as other indicators of a sick digestive system.

And anyone how ever had a serious fever know that we literally ’sweat out’ the bad stuff. So how you smell is also a medical indicator.

But compared to the Middle Ages modern humans hardly care about their shit, sweat and piss anymore. One of the reasons is that feces and urine are no longer directly collected to reuse them for other purposes. Urine was once a well needed resource, before chemical factories arrived. Ammoniac was for example extracted from Urine - and used for example in the clothing industry.

Many Kings had doctors who had nothing else to do, but sniff out his majesties poop and check for illnesses. Drinking urine itself is considered a medical application itself.

modern_urine_cup_of

You’ll never guess what I had for breakfast today …

So maybe next time you see your doctor - maybe ask him some questions about your excretions. And learn to watch your daily ‘exports’ for unusual indicators (most alarming is for example blood in your stool or urine).

Learn by constant observation how different diets change your excretions, your smell and most of all your moods and psyche. Your brain relies on certain chemicals and mood swings can be influence by a bad diet, bad digstion and lack of certain vitamins or other elements.

Hey, Hitler was constantly constipated - and you know what his bad mood lead to - right?

More? Some sweat info, more sweat, some about your urinary system, about Bowel movements, your digestive system, some stool advice from Oprah (of all people ;-), some really good tips for stool reading and about urine.

No new Postings until my Blog is moved this Saturday

blogo_mover_guys

Since the server this blog is living on has some serious problems my ISP is moving my account to a better machine. This will happen tonight (so they say). I just want to wait and see if all will work normally again after the move - so keep your fingers crossed.

So new postings on Saturday - or I have to rebuild the broken blog.

Let’s hope the digital Gods are in a good mood!

Battleplan

maj_gen_lemuel_shepherd_red

No battle plan survives any contact with politicians.

Appeasing public opinion, winning a battle and winning the war are three very different things. Usually all three are lost while trying to win all three objectives.

Not to speak of the hearts & minds of the natives you try to liberate …

Johnny Depp has created one of the most memorable character here: the mad pirate Captain, with a twisted sense of honor and humor. I would love to see more movies with this irresistible character.

I think he has the potential to become a long lasting modern archetype, like Spock, Darth Vader or Goucho Marx.

A new Cold War - or simply a longer overdue upgrade of Russian Military Power?

wa_russia_soldiers_marching

We are marching for new gimmicks!

Telegraph: Vladimir Putin rearms his Cold War military

Tsar Putin’s strong man rhetoric is a necessity of Russia tough internal politics. Showing strength and determination is important for a country that has lost it’s strength and social integrity.

So Putin’s plan to massively update the Russian armed forces makes perfect sense: since the fall of the Soviet Union the formerly huge Army, Navy and Airforce is in total disarray. Many ships, tanks, atomic subs and airplanes are no more than scrap metal and often a health hazards for soldiers and civilians alike. In the darkest days after the fall of the Soviet empire soldiers went for months without pay - the troops moral and integrity totally wrecked.

wa_russian_new_arms_wputin119big

From the Telegraph article.

Russia desperately needs modernization and a moral boost. So the oil money from the recent years is used to buy new military hardware, upgrade the infrastructure and show strength - internally and externally.

wa_russia_soldiers

I need new legs!

Compared to the US budget the Russian military spending is a joke. Plus the US has military bases all around Russia. Many former satellite states - which have been like buffer zones - have broken away. Many of them are now in bed with America and some are even host to US military bases. So no surprise the Russians feel the extra need to boost their own military power.

Who are you trying to scare anyway?

spiritual_scary_shark_at_beach

Often when people try to be scary it’s rather pathetic or simply funny. But what if you are scaring people without even trying? Are you projecting a hate shield to keep people away? Or are you a Guru, who’s insights scare the ignorant and stubborn? Or are you simply a mean spirit?

Being scary is not a compliment - it’s usually an ego deficit transformed into fear and violence.

I don’t want a smart ticketing computer! I don’t want a huge 3D time table with all arriving trains displayed! I don’t want a plastic bonus card to collect bonus miles!

All I want is a friendly faces that helps me on my journey.

There is too much marketing and high tech gimmickry going in these day on public transport, train stations and airports. But some ingredients like friendliness, good service and competence is missing.

tv_master-and-commander_3

tv_master-and-commander_4

tv_master-and-commander_2

I do hate sailing, but I do love a good ‘naval’ movie! Most of these are centered around the British Navy - and I have a weak spot for the period of British Empire anyway.

Most of the old movies tend to be charmingly naive and adventures (like Horatio Hornblower or the Sea Hawk), but only Master and Commander is both ‘modern’ (read: realistic) and exciting at the same time. And it helps a lot that no phoney love story is woven into the plot … it’s rather bloody, but full of friendship and the terrible truth about the moments of horror of war at sea.
