Time Magazine’s Person of the Year: Vladimir Putin

wa_putin_person_of_the_year

Time Magaine’s choices for the person of the year haven’t always been ‘nice’ ones. People like Hitler made the list. But this is not about being nice, but about being influential.

Vladimir Putin has changed Russia and put it back on the world stage - after that drunken and chaotic Boris Jelzin a big change. (See also this BBC News video)

He certainly was one of the most dominating characters of 2007. See also Time Magazine’s other choices

In this picture he looks like he is sitting on an electric chair waiting to have the juice put to him. ;>)

it seems to me that Time does want to imply he is a new brutal tsar.

@RichMc: Yeah, I agree it’s a weird and sick photograph. I really wonder if Putin knew he would be depicted like that. It’s not very flattering …

@trang: Have you read the Times article? They rather praise him for sticking to order and dominance - and bringing some structure back to Russia …

I have. That’s why I used the word “seem”. It’s not a very good pix of Mr. P.

When I see that picture the word “Iceman” comes to mind.

@RichMc: Iceman - perfect!
