Recession - what Recession?!

wa_stock_market_crash_2008

Business magazines like the great Economist already talked about a weak economy last year - and also about the chance for a recession. Sure, some indicators in the US showing signs of weakness, but overall the global economy is running quite nice.

The burst of the credit bubble was a nasty event, but still not big enough to bring the whole economic system down.

But the real  ‘panic’ started once the presidential candidates used the ‘R’ fear to get votes. Now everybody started talking and most of all worrying about a ‘Recession’.

Stock Brokers are like sheep in any other profession- they easily panic and follow the herd. Although the economy didn’t really crash or some nasty event like 9/11 happened they panicked.

The American economy might be a bit wobbly, bit it’s not bad. The rest of the world is running quite nicely - so can we please stop that panic and WORK on a better economy instead of crashing it?

I’m a bit tired, need to sleep!

There is a big buzz nowadays with this crisis of american economy. This crisis, for me, only means “greed”. Yes, I know is not that simple, that the economy is being hurt by the subprime mortgage crisis, etc. etc. etc.

My point is: The USA is a rich country. It has lots of available housing. It has plenty of natural resources. It has plenty of food, shelter, technology and the like. Essentially, they have material goods to provide their people and protect them.

These crises are caused by speculators and profiteers, that seek to obtain the very latest penny they can get, even though they don’t really need them. Many of them can perfectly tolerate the so-called “economic loses”. But their greed is there, blocking the way to accept that yesterday profits were inflated, exaggerated, and as a natural consequence, things are settling down.

If we were to say that the industrial and agricultural wealth of the USA had been somehow diminished, I would certainly recognize that there is a real crisis. But, as I see the current developments on this crisis, I have nothing else to say but conclude that is a crisis born out of the greed of a few.

If they are smart, then they will know what to do. But, in the meantime, while USA’s economy is sneezing, the rest of us mere mortals are having quite a strong cold & fevers.

When I say “speculators and profiteers” I’m speaking of the Stock and Corporate Markets. I don’t say they are evil people, I’m just saying that they are greedy (and selfish) people. They have in their hands power that can alleviate the situation, as they also have power to continue this wreckage.

and still there are people that have no choice than just live with it. even if they would care about it, they wouldn’t have a single chance to arrange a change.
because - not everyone has a choice! this is a big dream.

recession is important to all of us. and, no news: it is unfair!

@Zoee: Well, we all have to live with a recession - poor and rich people. It’s not a choice - it’s a question of money in the bank and if you can afford a recession. I can’t …

@Leonardo: I agree with you - most recessions are no longer ‘made’ in the industry / economy - but by the financial markets and stock exchanges. So they don’t reflect the flow of goods and services - but the flow and greed of capital.
