If you like Ikea you might buy more than your furniture or cake next time you visit the Swedes. They offer a wide range of homes made from pre-fabricated parts.

I am not sure if you assemble the whole thing with just a screwdriver? How big is the manual? And what to do when some part are missing?

In Japan, all homes come in ‘kit form’ such a great idea. Coming from the UK where it takes about 2 years to build a brick house I was surprised in Japan to see new homes going up in less than 3 months. The homes are first constructed in factories and then disassembled into kit, form ready for shipment. Better for construction workers who are not exposed to the winter weather. Less disturbance on the site when the homes go up and it takes less than half of the energy to construct than brick house.
Traditional Japanese houses and temples have always been made in kit form from 100% organic materials without the use of a single nail or screw. Lesson here for Europe!
Kit houses are the way of the future

@Zichi: Thanks for that insight! I always knew that Japanese people are pretty pragmatic - didn’t know that this extended to prepacked homes! ;-)
