When I watch some young parents playing with their kids I often wonder: did they want a kid or simply a talking doll?
That phrase “they grow up so fast” especially sounds very stupid in that context. What did you expect what was going to happen: your baby would stay forever tiny, vulnerable and totally dependable on you - so you can play and dominate that little human?
I am thinking often lately
how irresponsible we parents have become
allowing our children to act only as a child
playing their playstations,
chatting on msn
and not having to participate in the operation of the household
as it is no longer necessary for them to do so
in order for family survival
well at least in our ‘Western’ culture.
Childhood is extended and
children exit the family home ill prepared
for everyday real life practicalities.
@Lisa: Agreed. I think the focus is too much on “fun” and “individualism” - instead of self reliance and seriousness.
