You speak truth to power, but never the truth to the people in America

Yes, Americans are pissed off about the economy and being ignored by all parties. Yes, xenophobia, guns and Jesus are some reactions to that. Yes, Obama has touched an uncomfortable truth in America. Yes, and so many people don’t like to face their own anger on one side and political ignorance on the other …

I live in a rural/small-town area just like the ones in Pennsylvania that Obama’s talking about, and people here have guns because they like to hunt, not because they’re “bitter” about the US gubmint.

If you look at Obama’s comments in the light of the hate-filled, racist black church he’s been attending for the last 20 years, they make perfect sense. In the context of white, rural Americans, not so much.

Maybe - i desired - Obama will be the next president …but there is no chance to survive for him! They’re going to kill them!
He is a (political-) mixture from M.L.King and J.F.Kennedy… …there can`t help the best security-services !

@MrBaliHai: Well, I think he described SOME aspects of the current mood in the US or rural areas. I think there is a lot of resentment against companies, the government and institutions like NAFTA.

I agree that many people have guns or or Christians NOT BECAUSE of this - but there is a mentality that mixed well with gun culture, Christianity, very US-centric view and a conservative ideology. This is a basis with which Bush built his power on to win the presidential election on - twice.

So his remarks are not completely off the mark.

I think the comment Obama was trying to make, and mangled, is that many small town Americans are bitter/disillusioned that no one is listening to their economic concerns or can do anything about them. However, they are more easily swayed by the straw men set up by those on the right that liberals will take away their rights to carry guns and/or endanger their right to practice their faith as they choose. And having thus been swayed fall subject to losing on the economic front because those on the right are more concerned about the rich and business than the many “small” individuals out in rural America.

Mr Bali Hai. I know that talk those racist preachers dish out is not something you really care to hear. All you have to think about to understand is to think about the results our educational systems have produced for the inner city public schools to realize that when 75 percent of those students do not complete high school that there is something seriously wrong. We are going to perpetuate the cycle of haves and have nots, the crime, and all of the other ills that portends. If your kids were there and if you had that as your lot in life you’d be pissed too. And to think, things have gotten better!!!!! Hello, no child left behind.

Oh and by the way, I think it was the Terry Schiavo debacle that finally exposed the snake oil (straw man of the right’s devotion to the religious causes of small town/rural America) the right had up to that point sold oh so well to rurall/smalltown America.

Mr Bali Hai.
Did you even listen to what Obama really said about this or did you get your news from FOX?

We are finally hearing from someone who is speaking truth instead of pandering to our worst fears.
