ultraorange gets a new layout

personal_new_layout

Finally I had some time to finish my new layout. I have made a couple of changes.

The "Essay of the Week" is a new section. I wanted to give my longer rants a bigger exposure so they don’t "scroll away" so quickly.

I have abandoned the two column layout for a simpler linear approach: first the header with navigation, second the "Essay of the Week", then the normal blog, my ultraorange tweets and at the end the usual elements of the old sidebar (sidenotes, links, tagcloud, categories, recent comments).

Back are the links to fellow bloggers, friends & family.

Some elements and pages are still a bit rough – like the comments under each posting. Some aspects of the typography also have to be fine tuned. But it’s a start.

I got rid of all the social bookmarking gimmicks as well as ratings for individual posts – hardly anyone used them anyway.

Overall I am happy – because I needed to "see" something different. Woman need new shoes – I need new blog layouts.

Considering that I am such a creature of habit …you find a pleasant new shape ! There is nothing what disturb in the left or in the right… Some from your layout reminds me on the seventies-style – but maybe, thats because only from your special colors!

@mo: Thanks! Simplicity was my foremost goal for that relaunch. Header, content first and all the link crap at the end.

I need to include some additional navigational links and improve the commenting section – which still looks very much like the old one.

I don`t understand… Your commenting section is a little bit more complicated like before (because the list of the last comments are on the end of the page..)
A new tool …gadget, maybe, could be an interconnection of comments to similar or equal topics…
But …this is – i think so – associated with a to great effort… if it is possible at all!

(for every comment, now i must sign up my email-address each time?!)

@mo: Ă„hem … the comment section is EXACTLY like before. Nothing added, nothing subtracted.
