Hello Messiah Obama, are you ready for the Backlash?

wa_obama_inauguration_wave

Public Negro #1

It’s done: Bush out, the dynamic black dude sworn in and ready to rock the world. The Obama-Mania at it’s zenith.

But the backlash is already waiting for America and it will be ugly …

The 100 Day Games

Roosevelt with his New Deal introduced the idea of the "first 100 days". Today all Presidents and Bundeskanzlers are given that period of three months to do something impressive to make the mainstream media and the darn voters happy.

It’s almost like a bad sales pitch: if the head honcho doesn’t do anything you especially like you are allowed to be disgruntled for the rest of his time in office.

This is like a modern indulgence for today’s democrats – it allows them to fall back into favorite political posture: angry passivity.

"Those politicians are all the same!"

And so are most voters …

wa_obama_inauguration_mass_hysteria

Is this mass hysteria or what?!

Our beloved Messiah is now in Power

Obama is already vilified by many Republicans and Gun sales in Red America were the first reaction to his election was a rise in gun sales.

"Damn Niggers are running the country now!"

The left – hungry for power and the fabled change – is truly in ecstasy. Their candidate reflects modern day America obviously much more than McCain did – and most white Republican Dudes.

And the extra charisma and mental agility plus his appealing physical appearance are an added bonus. After eight years of Rummsfeldian Speeches ("We know what we don’t know"!) and an endless stream of Bushisms ANY intelligent statement that comes close to reality is welcomed.

Obama’s firework of brilliant rhetoric’s and quotable phrases must give any Democrat a hard-on.

That one can even write …

Addiction to Heroes and Illusions

It is no surprise that most modern archetypes and stories come from America. This country still offers the greatest opportunities for creative heads and money makers. And it’s still very much in love with it’s early colonizers and wild west heroes.

But all that fiction has lead to a rather disturbing disconnected between reality and American society.

While most Russians, Chinese, Germans or even French people would admit that their countries have problems most Americans are still stuck with that "USA #1" slogan in their heads.

It is that idea that America is the chosen country (by God) and the shining city on the hill. Failure is not an option.

But it’s not the country that will fix itself – America needs it’s Heroes to lead the way. Just like Lincoln and Martin Luther King dragged their country into a new frame of mind with a lot of blood and friction – Obama is expected to save the Universe and fill the pockets of ordinary Americans with Gold.

God bless America!

wa_obama_inauguration_george_washington

Didn’t like to go to Church …

American Religion and Politics are not married for eternity

Just like most Empires before America suffers from a religious delusion. American national identity is based on an unhealthy mixture of greed and myth.

I already can hear the American Christians protest and all their examples how America was founded on Christian principles – and therefore Christian values can’t be taken out of politics.

But their arguments are simply rubbish.

My dear American Jesus Fans: You can be a good Christian and a good (secular) citizen at the same time. Even when your Nations roots were Christian – the times have changed and nations have to change with them … or become like Saudi Arabia stuck in religious laws and harsh inequalities.

wa_obama_inauguration_spanish_inquisition

Can you be anymore Christian and Political than the Spanish Inquisition?!

Christian Super Nations: Spain and Italy

Nations like Spain and Italy are the most catholic countries in the EU, with a huge number of church going citizens (compared to hardcore atheist northern Europeans).

Spain with it’s Inquisition and Italy with the Rome as the still function heart of the catholic universe are MUCH more Christian nations based on their history and traditions still active in their societies than America ever will be.

But they are also very secular countries. Spain allows Gay marriage and is a very socialist country. In Italy there are even – gasp – Communists in Parliament! (Plus porn stars – but that’s another story.)

But apart from the usual Christian outbursts about naughty art and stupid artists still trying to provoke the Church both Italy and Spain are deeply secular nations. There is not a deep divide in this nation if creationism should be taught in schools or something similar.

Nor do have politicians play that stupid "I am such a great Christian"-Game to get elected.

Sure there are many Christianity based parties in both countries (and other European nations), but none of them would want to bring the state close to Christianity / Religion.

Clinton Global Initiative

Jesus makes me smile!

The Blair Project

Even superstar Tony Blair and his recent conversion to Catholicism is excellent examples for my argument. He is a deeply religious men, but he avoided to preach his personal beliefs while in office. And he never tried to tell the British public that he was chosen by God.

You can be a great Christian and even support Christian causes without blending religious rhetoric’s with your political agenda.

Blair certainly supported many Christian causes in British politics, be he also supported many other religious agendas as well. Especially during the terrorist attack on London he reached out to Muslims – and still does with his Middle East initiative.

(Side note: I am not a big Blair fan – but as a co-conspirator with Bush for the Iraq war he is the perfect opposite to that odd American mixture of Jesus and National Interests.)

wa_obama_inauguration_bible

OMG! He used the Koran …

The Cult of Obama

American society and India’s have something in common: almost any celebrity becomes a pseudo-religious figure in society. Every star gets his Cult.

And it works in booth ways: either you satanized or glorified. Loving or hating someone is done with religious fervor. There are hardly any shades of grey left, which is a pity, because reality and political situations need many tiny shades of it.

So the Cult of Obama is currently in full swing and although he has warned Americans they will face hardship and that he needs their participation they hardly listen. They simply want him to fix the problem with his magic wand or whatever.

wa_obama_inauguration_Limbaugh_Rush

Great Christian values: love, kindness, forgiveness, tolerance …

The Disappointment is coming

What most Americans don’t like to see is that their political spectrum and the differences between Democrats and Republicans are almost non-existent.

And thanks to Bush and the Rubberstamp Republican Congress (with the help of many spineless Democrats) Obama’s options for the next four years are rather limited (and so is his budget).

And he simply is just a politician, not a magician.

The problem with every Cult is disenchantment. The realization that your beloved God, Guru or Leader is just a human being. Since the Obama hype was so huge and the country so hungry for a better Saint the disenchantment will be severe.

And doesn’t matter if Obama will do his job well or not. Like in any relationship "falling out of love" will cause pain.

The Satanizer of course will be happy and loudly scream "I told ya so!" [Insert evil laughing Moose sound].

wa_obama_inauguration_Thomas_Paine

Great American ideas – imported from Europe: Thomas Paine – what a great thinker!

Conclusion

America still hasn’t thought about the "change" it so much wants. I wonder if America will come to realize that each citizen and the society as a whole needs to change. Change won’t come in the form of a tax break or another war.

There are so many "old" or unrealistic idea still embedded in American society that need to be changed.

As much as Negros can become Presidents now, so can America lower it’s military budget to rebuild it’s infra structure and educational system. Maybe update your political system too a bit to allow more political diversity (like more than two parties)?

America once again has to work hard to reinvent itself and learn from other nations. These were once great American qualities: openness, adaptability and curiosity.

You were not afraid to the take the greatest European ideas from the Age of Enlightenment and build a totally new nation based on these principles.

It’s time for new ideas that once again change the world – and America itself.

I liked this essay. Even though as a Christian – one who actually tries to follow the example of Jesus – I disagree with you on some points, overall I feel that you are right on the money with your assessment of America. The problem with Obama is that he has been built up so much here that the only way he can go is down. I am truly hopeful that he and the Democrats in power now are good for this country, and can undo many of the things that Bush did that I did not agree with. Only time will tell.

You did admit that our nations roots are based in Christian ideology, which is good….however the statement that that needs to change puzzles me. Aside from the commandment that you shall have only one God, what do you find objectionable about the ten commandments that needs to change? Out Bill of Rights is obviously based upon this…what’s wrong with it? Maybe I misunderstood you, please let me know. As for the inquisition and such, I hope that was tongue in cheek as there wasn’t much Christianity in those actions at all. You stated: “Great Christian values: love, kindness, forgiveness, tolerance …” which is the truth, it is a shame that more people of all walks of faith do not adhere to those tenets. The optimist in me would like for that dream to one day become a reality, but the realist in me knows that the Bible is right and it is only a matter of time before we are judged – and mostly found guilty of disobedience.

All I can do for today is try and live like the man, the man who set the best example of how to live, how to treat others, and how to treat ourselves. I am glad that the name of Jesus was invoked today. Take care and keep writing, I enjoy it.

@Stephen J. Galbincea: Thanks once again for your long comment.

My suggestion for American change has less to do with the ten commandments, instead it’s more about the attitude of Americans and their involvement with their country.

Plus I think religion and politics should be separated.

What you are touching is the old discussion can the be morality without religion or is our morality not based on religion?

But it’s not religion that brings morality – it’s simply nature. Richard Dawkins (and many other scientists) drew this conclusion in his book “The Selfish Gene”:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Selfish_gene

(Which actually is not about selfishness, but rather a lot that the gene tries to do anything possible to keep itself alive – even in “copies”. That is were altruism and social cooperation comes from.)

Human rights have been discussed and even legally written down in several ancient cultures way before Christianity. So these ideas are an essential part of human nature and our social behavior.

I personally applaud anyone who is trying to follow the great insights and texts of Jesus. Most of his words are brilliant and very commendable. But morality can’t be organized – neither in books nor via organizations like the church.

Diego

Guru, this was great analysis! I was wondering if anyone else on the planet had thoughts like these and sure enough, you didn’t disappoint. I know there are people in the US who do have the thoughts but right now they are being outshouted by left and right. Thanks for a great post!

@Diego: Oh well, just trying to speak my mind and what I see.
