Unwilling Grandparents

There is a new generation of grandparents in town, who are unwilling to lend a hand to raise the next generation.

Instead they rather cultivate their own love-life or hobbies instead of taking care of the grandkids.

Anyone surprised? Nope. That’s what you get when you mix our modern fun culture, the youth cult, ever increasing longevity and Viagra together.

Old people become as selfish as the young ones, because they don’t depend on them and very strictly follow their own very active lifestyle.

What’s wrong with grandparents that don’t help out? We don’t live in the same culture we did 50 years ago. When our children were young we lived hundreds of miles from my parents. Even if we lived across the street, we wouldn’t have expected free babysitting, etc.

@Jason: Well, grandparents should give their insights into raising their kids plus a big portion of time and love to their grandkids.

But today we mostly have single parents in many rich countries or small families. The great family seems a thing of the past – at least in rich nations.

I think grandparents are also a great balance for the parents and the kids. They often work as mediators and mutual stress relieve …
