The Little Princess Syndrome

modern_little-princess-syndrome

Why do we make little girls into little princesses instead of preparing them to be wise women and queens who take responsibility?

Many women never get out of that role and stick to naive and romantic world view.

Modern TV also sticks to that behaviour: all those Top Model reality TV series enforce that stupid behaviour – just be pretty and adorable.

It’s pretty interesting that the highlight of a girl’s princess career is mostly her wedding party. Dressed in a princess gown, preferably in an aristocratic ambience, impersonating somebody that has hardly anything to do with herself. And the groom, wanting to impress her, will go along with her and play the prince, at least until the real life will start -shortly after their honeymoon. A realistic and promising way of two personalities finding their way to a future of 40+ years together might look different, with some less glamor and acting.

@Männing: Agreed – the wedding is a fairy event! I often think that all the illusions that are built around a “breeding companionship” (Aufzuchtsgemeinschaft) are simply psychological devices to ease the pain and effort of raising kids.
