The Ramp - brilliant Guerrilla Markting by BMW

wa_rampenfest_the_ramp

Here is a lovely story from Bavaria, which most people think is a real thing. But it is actually a brilliant marketing campaign by BMW.

Enjoy!

Happy 75th Birthday Cheeta

tv_Cheeta_75th_birthday_ape_hollywood

One of the greatest Stars of our time recently celebrated his 75th Birthday - Cheeta from Tarzan. He played that charming ape friend of Johnny Weismüller’s in all the Tarzan movies in the 1930s and 40s. And he even got his own Star on Sunset Boulevard. Wow!

And as chimp he is extraordinarily, because their usual  life expectancy is only about 40 years. So Cheeta, you are the real King of the Jungle!

The Matrix Trilogy

tv_matrix_triology

I saw the first Matrix and I was blown away. I saw the second Matrix movie and I was bored. I saw the third Matrix movie and finally understood that I was in the Matrix myself and watching a repeat.

Sometimes bad movies don’t get any better - even when you give them time to grow on you.

Repeating the same idea with loads of violence and special effect doesn’t improve it. And I still want my personal Latex Superchick to fight for me.

Frontline Bush’s War - a brilliant documentary about the Iraq war

wa_bushs_war_frontline

Once again Frontline delivers an excellent documentary about current US affairs. Once again solid work offering many insight. Once again Frontline helps us to put many pieces of the puzzle into one big picture. Once again - thank you Frontline for the great work and allowing us bloody foreigners to watch the whole thing online.

More? Watch it all online with many bonus interviews you won’t see on TV.

Goodness Gracious Me - Lack of Indian Culture

Who says it’s hard to understand other cultures humor. Some stuff is pretty universal and easy to “get”. This one cracks me up every time …

HBO-Mini-Series John Adams

tv_hbo_john_adams_mini_series

HBO - like the BBC - is one of the great producers of astonishing stories, series and movies. It’s newest mini series “John Adams” is simply amazing - or at least the first two episodes so far.

Paul Giamatti is simply breath taking as John Adams - and Laura Linney as his wife simply blows me away.

The script is well written, the dialogues intriguing and one gets a pretty good feeling how hard it must have been for the so called founding fathers to break away from the British Empire and start their experiment called the United States of America.

Highly recommended!

So you wanna be a Stormtrooper?

tv_authentic-stormtrooper-cost

As a kid I would have sold you both my grannies, my mother and my father for a Stormtrooper uniform. I only managed to buy a really really really crappy helmet for a HUGE amount of of hard earned Deutschmarks back in the 80’s.

Today you simply can order that bloody thing off the intranets - but still for a price: $899.

I could save (again) that amount of money - but I am afraid there are no Fattroopers in the Star Wars Universe and dressing up a Jabba the Hut is not my idea of a good time.

Maybe I could do an oversized R2D2? Or I go as a mutant Yoda?

Billy Connolly - The Morgue & The Giant

I am a big fan of Mr Connolly, because he such a great storyteller - an art almost lost these days. I wouldn’t consider him a “comedian”, because he is not really telling jokes - he simply reflects life and it’s madness in all it’s glory with his wit and charm.

This video is one of my favorite stories …

Talking Lips

tv_presenter

Is it just me or are these TV presenters get hotter every year, with even bigger red lips and tantalizing outfits? Can’t we have simply ‘normal’ women not dress up dolls as presenters?

Boldly kiss where no one kissed before …

tv_kirk-uhura_kiss

Star Trek featured the first kiss between a white and a black person (no, it’s not african-american) on US-TV. But they were actually forced to do it by some alien overlord … actually that’s a pretty good excuse.

Are there any taboos left for Star Trek to break? We had a woman captain, a black captain, an Asian captain, we had lesbian encounters … can’t remember any Gays on any Star Sip so far?

Give me accurate history or give me death!

tv_Xena_warrior_princess

Watching fertile bimbos playing with rubber swords and acting to bad scripts doesn’t give you any real insights into antiquity.

Shows like Xena and the related Hercules - and many Hollywood and Walt Disney movies have totally twisted our understanding of the good old heroic days. I would consider “Life of Brian” almost as historically accurate as these sins.

All these script writers, directors and most of all producers should be properly crucified for these sins!

Greece and Roman history offer many amazing and breathtaking stories. Also the myths are brilliant. There is no need to spice these stories up - there is loads of blood, sex and drama in them.

Wonder Woman

I just found these clips and remixes from Wonder Woman. Since I didn’t grew up in the US of A I wasn’t ‘blessed’ witch such a highly intellectual TV series.

But I am sure it makes great masturbation fodder if you are twelve years old, male and free porn on from the Internet hasn’t yet been invented.

Happy 35th Birthday Rocky Horror Show

tv_nation_rocky_horror-Picture_show

In the year 1973 in a small theater in London a crazy new play premiered that was destined to change the life of transvestites and normal people alike. The movie come soon afterwards 1975.

I think there has never been anything like it again. The Show immediately become a cult with a huge following with an important twist. Fans of movies usually limit themselves to buying merchandise of their obsession - but Rocky Fans went much further. They dressed up like their crazy idols and went into movie theaters in full gear to sing and dance to the scenes on the screen. It was a hot parallel reenactment with loads of singing, screaming and makeup. If you never been to a Rocky show with such fans you don’t know what you have been missing. (Here are some guidelines what to bring and to do during a show with fans.)

Well, Star Wars and Star Trek fans  also do dress up like their idols - but they sing and dance in the theatres, nor do they get laid as often as raunchy bisexual and transsexual Dr. Frank-N-Furter.

Compared to today’s rather stupid gangster HipHop acts and all these neurotic pop princesses this was really crazy, funny and highly inspiring. It was all about joining the party - and not consuming it.

PS: I pray to the God’s there will NEVER be a remake made by Hollywood.

Empty movies

tv_green_screen

So many movies these days are made in front of a green screen - to be mixed and composed with computer generated action later. The actor literally acts without context in a creative a vacuum.

I think we as an audience feel that emptiness and that lack of chemistry between the real actor and his virtual counterpart.

American Mass Media - the Masters of reporting Crap

tv_CNN_poll_our_reporting

CNN recently asked it’s viewers if they were sick and tired of all that shallow reporting? 94% of the viewers said yes. Even the question was so bloody obvious that one has to ask if not only the politicians, but also most of the mass media in that big country has lost contact with reality?

I recent weeks I watched the live reporting of the presidential primaries - and I was quite amused by the stupidity of it. The insights and talking points that the pundits and so called ‘experts’ used were chillingly flat - even I as an Non-American could see that.

This is not a dumbing down of a country - it is already dumb and shallow in the places were intellectuals should offer their brainpower to the people.

Apart from a few shining examples like Keith Olbermann I hardly see any TV journalist worth their money. Political agitation has become such a money game, that the messages they spread are so full of artificial flavor that they no longer need to have any nutritional value. American news has became like American Fast Food - it just bloats your mind, fattens your fears - but leaves you hungry and sick in the end.

Sunset Boulevard 1950

tv_sunset_boulevard_final_scene

I consider Billy Wilder one of the greatest movie makers of all times. His Sunset Boulevard is basically a nasty homage to the old Hollywood and it’s star cult. There are only a few movies from that period that have that mind of psychological depth and character play in them. And this movie hardly has a happy ending …

The final scene

Gloria is just brilliant in this VERY creepy last scene.

PS: The most tragic figure in the movie is Erich von Stroheim - the butler (director by the cameras in this scene) and a great - but ignored director in real life.

Fritz Lang’s - Frau im Mond

tv_fritz_lang

I consider Fritz Lang as one of the greatest directors ever. His movies were ground breaking in his days. His masterpiece ‘M - eine Stadt sucht einen Mörder’ still puts many modern productions to shame. But I also recommend watching his outdated movies like ‘Frau im Mond‘ from 1929. How times have changed … but this movie actually ‘invented’ the countdown, which is still in use today.

You can watch the whole movie here.

Is there anyone out there who doesn’t love Sesame Street? It has become a part of modern life and almost everyone’s TV childhood memories.

Finally there is a great Sesame Street video archive with LOADS of videos, all very well tagged and named. Too bad I can’t link directly to videos - but I guess this will come later.

Where is my daily Colbert fix?! And my John Stewart …

tv_where_is_my_colbert

I applaud the current writer’s strike in the US. The creative people should be paid for their stuff! But I don’t think I can cope for much longer without Stephen, John, Dr. House, Boston Legal …

But especially American political satire is needed these days with all the weird presidential election stuff going on. Bring some insanity back to explain all the political madness going on …

Well, it’s only for a very amusing TV spot. But at least they used the original actor (Matt Frewer).and setup. Great Homage to one of the greatest pop icons of the 80’s. Remember that cool song from Art of Noise with Max?

The movie Golden Compass looks very promising - although I am weary that the plot is going to be too predictable.
