You simply download the pattern and print it on a A4 / letter sized piece of paper. Grab your scissors and start the fun. Each model on the site is rated for it’s complexity to build. What a great service - thanks you Cubeecraft!

Comodo Firewall - it’s free and it’s good to protect your Windows PC

digital_commodo_firewall

Where to get it? www.personalfirewall.comodo.com

What is it? A free excellent firewall.

Why do I want to use it? The built-in Windows firewall doesn’t deserve it’s name and is more like Swiss Cheese. Comodo is currently the BEST firewall - and it’s free. (Here is a long list of benefits - but it’s very techie)

What does it do? Protects you from intruders from the Internet and checks if any nasty programs try to "call home" from your machine.

Who should use it? Every Windows XP user who still uses the built-in firewall.

How complicated is it to use? Download and install is pretty easy - under five minutes. The software will bug you with some question while you are using it WHICH IS A GOOD thing, because you should know what certain programs are doing, so you can protect yourself. It is a bit unnerving for beginners, but once you told Comodo which programs you use on a regular basis and trust the amount of security questions is considerably reduced.

LocalCooling - when Nerds try to save the world and fail

digital_LocalCooling

All our computers waste huge amounts of energy by waiting for us humans to do something. Most so called CPU cycles are wasted for waiting for you to press a mouse button or open a new webpage.

LocalCooling is a gadget for WindowsXP users to reduce their energy usage - or at least configure their computers to shut down unused parts or completely. Hey, you can even calculate how many trees you have saved - and there is even a top ten list for your and your buddies to participate in a global energy saving contest.

Let’s all say it: awesome!

Or is it? Overall there is nothing new in here: all energy settings can be found in the aptly named Energy control panel. So it’s only a good remix of already existing.

So if you really want to save some energy, than open your Energy control panel and tell your machine to shutdown the monitor and hard drive after a few minutes idle time … and don’t download that LocalCooling application and don’t waste any more energy thinking about it.

What we REALLY need are computer components that act more energy conscious and use a lot less electricity. Intels newest mobile Core2 processors only know two speed settings: half and full speed. There should be more settings.

Free Song from Queen to raise AIDS awareness and donations

music_queen_say_its_not_true

What a great gift! Queen gives you a free song - and wants you to donate some money to fight AIDS. Now that’s what I call a great deal!

From the official website:

It has not been that closely a guarded secret that Queen and Paul Rodgers have been in the recording studio for their first sessions together following their successful world tour of 2005/2006. Indeed, both Paul and Brian have been quoted on their websites as being "quietly excited" about the music that has been produced from this creative union.

Spurred on by their commitments as Ambassadors to Nelson Mandela’s 46664 HIV AIDS global campaign, on which the spotlight will fall December 1 with a World Aids Day awareness and fundraising concert in Johannesburg, South Africa, Brian, Roger and Paul have announced they have rushed to finish a track specially written for 46664 by Roger and have it available as a free download in time for this coming Saturday’s benefit concert.

The track, Roger’s "Say It’s Not True", originally came to light for the launch of the 46664 campaign back in November 2003. Roger wrote the song as a gift to Nelson Mandela (or ‘Madiba’, as he is fondly known), and performed it live for him for the first time with Brian and Dave Stewart at the inaugural 46664 concert in Cape Town that month. The song carries the message that HIV AIDS is something that can affect any one of us.

I like the song. But I also like the whole idea.

Thanks to Zichi for sending me this link.

Skype rulez!

digital_skype_illustration

I have been using skype since it’s start. Today it’s the only Instant Messaging program I use. I also do many conference calls and all my text messaging to cell phones with it. It’s cheap (to call land lines and cell phones), free (to download and call other computers) easy to use and works fine most of the time.

Highly recommended for all digital human beings. Delete your ICQ, AOL, Yahoo!, MSN or whatever IMs - this is the future.

Wallpaper Overkill at Vladstudio

blogo_wallpaper_vlad

Looking a cool wallpaper for your desktop? Or maybe two or three? Or maybe a dozen … or maybe 432?

Vlad Gerasimov has a HUGE collection of well designed wallpapers. Normal sizes are for free - bigger ones cost you some Euros. I actually think his work is worth some cents since it is well made and he offers a great site and support.

Thanks Edosan for the link!

Black Adder

tv_black_adder_goes_fourth

At least once a year I have to watch some old Black Adder episodes - just to remind myself that there are some good comedy writers out there. Apart from the dreadful first series I can recommend to you all the other three seasons of this great show … if you like British comedy …

BBC - The Tribal Eye

science_tribal_eye

Sir David Attenborough is one of the greatest film makers ever. His documentaries are stunning, insightful and brilliant. In the year 1976 he produced "The Tribal Eye". A great series about native art and culture all over the world.

Thanks to the wonders of the intranets it can be found on Torrents via Mininova.org. When you like it BUY it - via Amazon for example.

One more thing: Attenborough has this incredibly soothing voice. He could read anything to me and I would find it reassuring. Is it just me?!
