We are slowly entering the Age of Human-Machine-Symbiosis. Sure - it’s all very crude at the moment and we are still ’smarter’ then machines.
But …
Can you remember all the telephone numbers of your friends?
Would you socially disappear if you cell phone would be gone?
Do you mostly use computers as a bridge to communicate with others - or just your human ‘interface’?
Can you still perform easy calculations without a machine?
Can you write a perfect text without a keyboard and automatic spelling checker?
Can you entertain yourself without a digital machine delivering moving images, games or music to you?
Most people are afraid about the future. They fear the unpredictable - that is why all those imposters who claim to give you glints of the future have always been in high demand by scared human minds.
But we define the future ourselves by going there. We can’t influence everything what is coming toward us - but we can take part in the “design” and “movement” of our destiny. It’s not all blurry and totally unpredictable.
If you take an active part in your own life and invest some thoughts & actions for your own future - the coming “now” will be much more to your liking and enjoyable - instead of simply stumbling into another moment of randomness …

Here are some of NASA’s design sketches for the next moon landing - as commanded by George W. Bush. The whole mission, the proposed systems and attitude is so 1960’s.
Once again it’s a race - with the Chinese - to be the first to establish a base. All systems like the crew capsule, the lander and the final landing (with parachute) are just a remix of old technologies. It’s almost like some old man at NASA and in politics try to recreate the golden age of space exploration - and America’s greatness.

Apart from computers everywhere and portable communication devices the future ain’t how it was sold to me as a kid. But maybe I am simply stuck in that 1950’s - 60’s space age mentality?
But who wanted to have global climate change and the return of religious fundamentalism in the future?
I want that vision of a happy, clean, secular, social, healthy and progressive future back! Damn it!

Robots won’t violently takeover the world. We will be so fat and lazy in the future, that we’ll need them to run our affairs for us. Slavery is too tempting for humanity to ignore.

Remember all these great space illustrations from your childhood: cities floating in space, generational starship sailing to the next solar system and moon stations. Although we finally get closer to creating these marvels the public is less and less enthusiastic about it. I guess it will change once there is the first zero-g brothel in orbit. Porn sells even science.

Where no man has gone before! Apes always led the way - we just followed. They test our medicine, they have to test our vehicles and even fly into outer space for us.

This is the future I am still waiting for. Slick clothes, smart space chicks and some hot rocket action …

The first of 41 satellites. One of the greatest achievements of mankind and one of the greatest PR move ever! America was shocked out of it’s wits by the Russian Beeper in space.
Some videos from that time: Russian Show reel, Dutch report, American reel and great BBC dramatization.
Happy Sputnik day!
… they haven’t build women like these yet …
… on the other side - I am already frustrated by women. Why wait another 150 years for even more male depressions?!
