Let’s get greener and get rid of Christmas

wa_Merry_Christmas

Christmas is the annual apex of Consumerism all over the world. Countries like China celebrate it like mad just as so called Christian nations.

For many Companies this shopping festival is the most important date – they make 50 or more percent of their sales during these days.

We certainly could cut down on consumerism (and many stupid presents we buy and travels we make during the silly season).

But consumers won’t like a new austerity and so the waste will rage on …

We should use second class water to flush our crap

modern_toilet-aquarium

Each time we flush the toilet we waste perfectly good amount of water. Our water systems in our houses and flats are stupid: it should collect hardly dirty water from showering, washing machines and washing up to flash down crap.

Why don’t you stop eating any treats until Christmas

modern_weihnachtsstollen

Christmas – like so many festivals – is a clone of the winter solstice celebrations.

The winter solstice is an important moment for any primitive agricultural society: the days get longer and spring isn’t far off. It also is an important date, it helps you to figure out when to till your fields and start sowing your seeds – especially when you have no clocks and internet.

So celebrating the winter solstice is important and it’s no surprise why people stuffed themselves with yummy food (if it was available). Those yummy and calorie rich treats also are meant to help you to master the rest of the winter.

But today we hardly suffer from no food in harsh and long winters. You can even have typical European summer fruits like Strawberries and exotic bananas all year round.

There is hardly any hunger or scarceness these days in rich countries. We consume HUGE amounts of sugar and other treats all year long.

So why not go sugar & treat free until Christmas to REALLY get into the spirit and celebrating that day by eating something you don’t have EVERY day?

Eat more fruit and vegetable – save the world by using less energy for food production

modern_eat_more_vegs_use_less_oil

Producing meat uses many primary food sources like wheat, maize or grain – and also oil for additional transport. Plus meat always needs to be cold – and therefore needs even more energy for refrigeration.

All livestock farts and produces loads of greenhouses gasses – and that’s actually as much bad gas as produced by cars.

Earth Day is coming – what will you do to save the planet you are living on?

wa_earth-day

Earth Day is one of these new holidays that give me the creeps. They always have a good intention behind them, to raise awareness and hopefully get people to do something.

Instead it’s a humiliating reminder that 99,9% of our fellow humans don’t care or simply don’t know what’s going on.

I personally would prefer if some great catastrophe would wipe out a big city or kill a million people – MAYBE then everyday would be Earth Day?

In China air pollution kills at least 100.000 people a year. But this number hardly registers when your population is over 1.000.000.000.

Don’t forget: 22nd of April is Earth Day! Either kill someone to reduce the human stress on our planet or do something nice for mother nature …

The slow Death of the Plastic Bag

modern_bring_your_own_bag

Each year we waste billions of plastic bags for shopping and waste disposal. They are made out of oil – a valuable resource – so it’s a huge waste of a precious material. But worst of all: it takes nature almost forever to dissolve plastic bags. Plus many animals get trapped in thrown away bags.

Like the light bulb the plastic bag has to go and replaced by something renewable and more practical. It’s a shame that it takes us so long to get rid of it … can we please start a war on plastic bags? Some people have started campaigns to get rid of it – and some government simply make the consumer pay for it. (Thanks for the link Xtine)

How many Humans does it take to kill the old light bulbs?

wa_ape_changing_light_bulb

Energy efficient light bulbs have been around for many years now. Have you replaced all of the old energy wasting bulbs in your home?
