Congratulations to Laura Linney and Paul Giamatti for well deserved Emmys for John Adams

It’s not very often that I am impressed by anything that’s produced for television, but HBO’s ‘John Adams’ was simply brilliant.

Laura Linney’s and Paul Giamatti’s performance was especially heartwarming, touching and excellent. I am very happy they got each an award for their work.

Bill Maher’s Real Time new season - too much routine, not enough brains

tv_real-time-bill_maher_new_season

I am a huge fan of Bill Maher. His and Jon Stewards wits helped us bloody foreigners to believe that the progressive and intellectual heart of America hasn’t died.

Being progressive means making progress - moving forward. But already during the last season the jokes were stale and predictable, the outrage had turned into professional satire.

Most of all: many funny guests were rather “unhelpful” by being totally disconnected or adding stupidity instead of sharp and witty remarks.

The new seasons started last weekend - and it seems more of the same. So I expect many old faces from last season as well as the same lame comments and jokes.

Like Keith Olbermann Bill Maher seems to have founds his audience and is raking in the praise he deserves. But please don’t fall asleep …

Laura Linney rocks!

Laura Linney is a very fine actress - her performance in John Adams is just magnificent (the same compliment goes to Paul Giamatti).

I think I have a crush on her. And on Abigail Adams.

*sigh*

HBO-Mini-Series John Adams

HBO - like the BBC - is one of the great producers of astonishing stories, series and movies. It’s newest mini series “John Adams” is simply amazing - or at least the first two episodes so far.

Paul Giamatti is simply breath taking as John Adams - and Laura Linney as his wife simply blows me away.

The script is well written, the dialogues intriguing and one gets a pretty good feeling how hard it must have been for the so called founding fathers to break away from the British Empire and start their experiment called the United States of America.

Highly recommended!

Rome

Very cool TV series from HBO. It’s not as cheesy as those old Hollywood movies, it tries to be historically accurate (but there are some serious errors) - at least in it’s settings and design.

But I do love those characters and their very different attitudes. The personal stories and character development is interesting to watch. The acting is excellent. Life in Rome is full of sex and brutality - it was just ‘normal’ back then, people dying and fucking all over the place.

A nice change to all the doctors, lawyer and other soap operas. I actually would love to see a PROPER series about Athens and other Greek city states - not that Hercules & Xena crap. HBO are you listening?

Rome makes you wander if we have progressed at all? Hail Caesar!

More? Wikipedia
