Andrea Bocelli - true talent can’t be stopped

Andrea Bocelli with Sarah Brightman …

… Christina Aguilera …

… and finally Elmo! ;-)

Andrea Bocelli is one of these people that make mere mortal feel even smaller. Already as a youngster we was a gifted musician - playing the piano, saxophone and the flute. He lost his sight as a kid thanks to a football hit on the head.

As an adult he studied law and got his doctor degree. But to pay for his education he sang in piano bars (where he also met his future wife and mother of his two kids) - which also launched his singing career.

Today he is an international star and sold millions of CDs. Most of his albums are quite kitschie - but his success is nevertheless impressive.

Bollywood - the new Kitsch for a naive global audience

Bollywood_Sen_Khan__295470g

Hollywood has long lost it’s hunger for musical, simple romance and naive Kitsch. The great dance movies of the 1940’s are long forgotten.

But don’t despair: another booming nation is willing to fill your head & heart with naive Kitsch.

India’s romantic  Kitsch crap is making people all over the globe. It’s simple mixture of sing & dance, naive cliches and archetypes right out of fairy tales are easy to understand for those craving some happy and brainless entertainment.

tv_miss-bollywood-shilpa-shetty

These variations lack all the cynicism and twisted modern identity crises of modern romance and most western romantic Kitsch. In India woman are still old fashioned woman and behave like a proper princess.

So audiences not only crave Kitsch romance, but simplicity itself. Why not move to Saudi Arabia instead, where traditional roles are strictly enforced?

I want my Hello Kitty-Luggage!

personal_hello_kitty_luggage

As some of you know I did a lot of traveling in recent months - and as lonely as some nights in cheap business hotels can be - I still enjoy it.

One thing I always wanted for my stuff is a Hello Kitty trolley for two reasons.

First: It’s perfect Kitsch and a great statement about some idiotic jobs I do.

Second: Everybody else is having black, blue or maybe red trolleys. I they popup at the airport it’s often hard to say which one is yours. So far I haven’t seen any "serious" business man using a pink trolley. So I am pretty sure I am gonna see "mine" immediately.

I have seen a big Hello Kitty trolley with card casing - but it was sold out before I could get it. Damn kids!

Charles-Paul Landon - Daedalus and Icarus 1799

art_Charles-Paul Landon - Daedalus and Icarus 1799

This one looks more like flying lessons from one old angel to a younger one. All very Kitsch. There is no context to the original tale or anything Greek.

Cuteness can’t overcome Death

spiritual_cuteness_and_death

No matter who much cuteness, pink and kitsch you stuff into your life - it will end. The question is: How much real substance do you want? How much effort are you willing to invest into you own life? And how much pain are you willing to endure to reach your full potential?

Sounds to harsh? Well then choose the way of modern consumerism and try to get the easy & fluffy ticket until death.

The easy way out will always be there.

Pink as a Lifestyle

modern_pink_as_a_lifestyle

Pink has become a terrible lifestyle and attitude the recent years: just be happy, just be fluffy, just be nice. LOL LOL LOL …

Your life as a Kitsch object. Terrible!

Life isn’t a pink pony to ride. Life is a bit more colorful, exciting and terrible. Enjoy all the colors and attitudes. Thinking Pink is fucking boring.

Clash of the Titans

tv_clash_of_the_titans_kraken

This was the last big Adventure movie made with Stop-Motion puppets. If you watch it today it’s cheesy and childish compared to all these computer generated action flicks. Even a decent episode of Xena or Hercules is better.

The list of actors is rather impressive: Laurence Olivier, Maggie Smith and Ursula Andress. But even their greatness can’t help the bad script and usual Hollywood distortion of an old Greek myth (a norse Kraken has nothing to do with the Greek Titans).

I am still waiting for some TV show or movie series that tries to portrait Greek mythology in a good and serious manner! There are so many great stories waiting to be retold. But movies like ‘Troy’ or the above mentioned crappy Xena and Hercules certainly DON’T do these great tales ANY justice.

More? Wikipedia entry and watch the whole movie online.

Kitsch Tech

At a certain advancement of technology - Kitsch will take over innovation and spoil everything.

Bollywood Music

music_bollywood_dola-re-dola

Since the mid-nineties Asian movies are conquering the global market. Tales from China and India are big hits with western audiences. India - or better Bollywood has always outproduced it’s American rival, but it took a long time until their products were universally accepted.

From a few ’serious’ movies, most Bollywood productions seem to have only singing, dancing and a lot of Kitsch romance in mind. So it’s not really my kind of stuff. But SOMETIMES I like the music, because it’s obscure at best - or has some excellent classical Indian bits in it. And I love classical Indian music.

So here is a typical pop music style Bollywood song with some typical weird English lyric fragments in it (from the movie "Bombay Talkie" (a short and very weird video excerpt here)):

More "traditional" Bollywood soundtrack (the title music for the flick "Teen Kanya"):

More? YouTube is FULL with that stuff. Here an ‘old school’ scene (Jimmy Hendrix meets Bollywood - I nearly pissed myself) and here a modern scene with the Goddess Aishwarya Rai herself.

I love I love New York

tv_I_love_newyork

I am constantly amazed what kind of ‘reality’ soaps get made for the telebrain. VH1 is one of the biggest producer of amazing crap. Social porn in form of dating and humping shows are their genre. And they fiercely milk every dollar out of every micro celebrity they have created themselves. Excellent business concept!

The lovely lady above is such an example: she used to be a candidate for a dating show (big rap star looking for the perfect bitch), then she got her own mating series (I love New York - watch all episodes online if you dare)- and now ‘we’ are facing round two of this personality disaster.

Most amazing is that hundreds if not thousand of guys tried in auditions all over the US and via the intranets to get on the show as the perfect lover. I guess reality shows really create our reality more and more.

Hello Kitty Laptop

My perfect nightmare of tech and Kitsch in one overpriced package. Although I must admit I would love to turn up in a serious business meeting with that machine.
