Bernie’s Better Beginner’s Guide to Photography is exactly what it says - and not a bad one! Highly recommended if you want to know a bit more about making good snaps and buying the right camera. Although his tutorial focuses on SLR cameras, most stuff applies also to small snappers like the one above.

is there anyone out there who doesn’t adore these photos? Maestro Adams is the King of Nature photographers. His keen eye for nature’s beauty and tranquility is unsurpassed - and his hard work hauling all that equipment to god forsaken places is greatly appreciated. All hail King Ansel!

Moira has sent me this great gallery of old guys portraits. It is rare that the male form entices photographers to snap my species. But making pix of old guys is even rarer.
Thanks Moira.

Since 2000 there has been an explosion of good pixels on the intranet. Thank you cheap DSL and digital cameras! JPG Magazine is a peer made topical collection of excellent images from all over the world. You can participate with your own artwork, download all them as PDF or simply watch all old issues online.
Or you can simply support the project by subscribing to a proper printed edition.

Usually I dislike simply linking to big image dumps in some forums, but this one is special. Great shots from rural Russia. (I guess? Anyone out there can help me there?)
Like van Gogh the photographer took some time at the grace and beauty of normal life, age and the landscape. It takes some love and an open mind to see that we are all beautiful, even in the most forgotten places on earth …

Madonna always knew how to reinvent herself. Her looks for the videos ‘Frozen’ and ‘Nothing Really Matters‘ were very stunning. This is a promo shot for Harper’s Bazaar 1999.

Music is an essential part of our human culture. Too bad we are loosing that aspect in our daily lives. Instead of sharing and listening to it together everybody escapes into his / her own iPod-Sphere. And how many people can play an instrument these days or know the lyrics of several songs (not just the refrain)?

Herr Lorre was a magnificent actor. His performance in "M" is still top notch. But when he later immigrated to Hollywood he was mostly abused for minor and ridiculous roles (although his act as mad wizard in the "Raven" is pretty adorable). Hollywood was just not ready for deep stories (like "M").
post dedicated to Moira - who is a big Peter Lorre fan

Norma’s beauty and esprit is so very different from today’s movie stars. I wonder if many of the silent and early stars would ever make it in our modern cult of celebrity? If Paris Hilton can call herself a ‘brand’ then Norma Shearer certainly was a Goddess.

Artist: George Hurrell - thanks Brad

Usually I HATE linking ‘funny pictures’ - but this series of dental shots is simply awesome and a great idea. I like the attitude and mind behind this concept …
Enjoy killroyfromwebmasterworld.com!!!

Sorry, is it just me or is it hot in here? You actually can buy a copy of that shot for a mere $2500. Any lottery winners out there?

The know you are a 21st century person when your friends show their holiday snaps on a computer instead of a slide show of photo album. As much as I love the computer screen - but it sucks as a social event.

Over at Lifehacker.com there is a nice round of geeky exhibitionism. People show their stuff. Another fine example of social porn on the intranets.
So - how much does your bag tell us about you?

Usually I am not a big fan of such shots - but in this case I like that almost graphical style of the image processing. Very cool!
I’ll trade three Kate Moss and a sack of strange white powder for the original fashion stick. Shamelessly stolen from here - Tom Sutpen & Stephen Cooke
Photographer: unknown - can anyone help?
Did you really think Sharon Stone invented the chair foreplay? Think again. I guess playing the big temptress is as old as woman have been allowed to sit on chairs anyway. In this case it’s the charming Joan Blondell. This charming sitting position has made Christine Keeler very famous.

The intranets provide a cute safety net if you feel stressed out, unloved or empty. Just click for something cute - and your day brightens up. So the net becomes an emotional one-click-pony: Click-Cute-and-Relax!
We humans have the great ability to empathize: we can feel what we see. We feel the cuddly moments and gentleness of such sweet snaps. We become the picture we watch - we become the little fluffy being being cared for. For an instant we are without weight, memory and pain.
The emotional rush is better than chocolate, caffeine and Prozac. Escape the harshness of your life with a cute instant gratification.

I am still trying to find out who did this great shot - all I have is a name, but the Google God won’t deliver any hints. Her face and the shots composition are simply timeless …
