Beijing 2008 - Mission Accomplished Comrade!

wa_beijing 2008_mission accomplished

Congratulations China - you did it!

The Olympic Games of 2008 were perfect, smooth and deliciously boring. Your sponsors are happy, because you locked away all protestors and avoided ugly scenes that could spoil all the marketing campaigns of giant global corporations.

And congratulations to your fake artist, real artists, pumped up athletes and your hard-working ones. So many medals and such a fine show.

Nevermind that we found out that that so much was faked and distored. Hey, it’s just a big show. Just like your regime.

A big show to demonstrate your power …

Olympia 2008 - where are all the spectators?

It’s ironic: China is the country with the most people - but still many seats at the events stay empty? The organizers said that all events are sold out!

Why?

Either those with tickets can’t get in for security reasons or many tickets given to sponsors are not being used.

But those nifty Chinese communists have a solution! They have special volunteer squads who are filling the empty cheats and cheering their guts out. Looks good on global television!

Olympia 2008 - perfect Chinese Synchronicity and a soulless Propaganda Affair

wa_olympia_2008_perfect_synchronicity

Today China finally can show off it’s monstrous investment and preparation for the 2008 Olympics. But I am afraid that the Communist Apparatchik simply confuses good and cheerful games with a perfect performance.

Instead of international fun and chaos we get soulless Propaganda.

Already now the mood is spoiled by the Chinese human rights violation, suppression of Tibetan protests, the ongoing support for the murderous regime in Darfur and Zimbabwe and the Chinese condemnation of western support for freedom in their own country. China’s Communists hate foreign "intervention" as they call it - instead of common sense.

I just wait another four years to see the games in London.

They are off! Tour de France 2008

A spectator known as Didi and dressed as a devil, jumps beside a pack of riders during the fifth stage of the 95th Tour de France cycling race between Cholet and Chateauroux, July 9, 2008. REUTERS/Bogdan Cristel (FRANCE)

Every year the same procedure: hundreds of athletes start one of the toughest races there is and every year a few cheaters spoil the fun. I guess some day I have to visit the Tour - I guess it’s one big party for the spectators?

Anybody been there?

Euro2008: Spain beats Germany - one Nation healed, one Nation devastated

wa_em2008_finals_spain beats germany 1

wa_em2008_finals_spain beats germany 2

Bastian Schweinsteiger - called "Schweini" by his friends (which actually roughly translates into "Piggy") - is devasted …

Congratulations Spain - you really are Europe’s Football Champion. That title is well deserved - although I still think that the Dutch are an equally  breath taking team.

Germany - once again - didn’t make it to the top. They didn’t play very good and it’s more or less by chance they ended up in the finals.

And I glad it’s over. After a month of madness, endless street parties and over excited fellow countryman I am glad some form of silence and normality is back.

Actually it’s a stupid affair anyway: watching these youngster millionaires sweating it out on the field to make even more money. Almost all of these players are the cream of the top of their national leagues and earn shitloads of money.

So each Euro Championship is mostly about overpaid sport stars duking it out and RAISING their net worth in pro football.

I am actually happy that the Spaniards won the tournament, since it has already helped to heal some of the rift in a still divided country. Spain’s many proud regions usually despise each other and didn’t stand behind their national team in unity. This year was different. So sport and symbolism can have a huge transforming impact - even in so called "modern societies".

EM2008 - Russia vs Netherlands - Oranje go get the Russkies!

wa_em2008_russia_vs_netherlands

I still think that Oranje should win the tournament - they overall have played the best "Fußball" so far. Tonight they hopefully kick the boring Russians out of the tournament.

Go Oranje go!

This game also shows you how idiotic the idea of "national" teams has become in our days: the trainer of the Russian team is Dutch and has trained the Dutch team before. But is anyone surprised about stuff like that, when an immigrated Brazilian plays for the Turks …?!

PS: As a German it’s a sacrilege to support the Dutch team - so please don’t tell any of my fellow Sauerkrauts of this …

EM2008: Oranje thoroughly beat the Italian’s Arse last night

The Dutch national football team is called "Oranje" for obvious reasons. Last night they seriously devastated the "Azzurri" - for the first time in thirty years: 3:0.

That is very embarrassing for the Italians - who are the current World Champignons.

I am still not mad about Football - but when anything orange wins I am happy! ;-)

PS: is it just me or does anyone else think that "Giovanni van Bronckhorst" sounds Italian, German and Dutch in just one name?

England down!

SOCCER-EURO/

Nothing bothers English people more than sports. England just got very ungraciously kicked out of the Euro 2008 (watch some highlight here). This is causing a big ruckus on good old England - who still consider themselves world class footballers. All in all - a national tragedy. Even politicians got involved. Now that’s real dedication!

Let’s send them some chocolate and some fine German lager to get over it. ;-)
