It must be Summer - the Tourists are swarming in the Water

Click image to join the crowd …

We humans are social herd animals - we always seem to move in crowds and are never to far away from a fellow Mensch.

Especially during vacation time a modern paradox comes to light: we travel in huge crowds to ‘empty’ beaches to enjoy the ’silence’ and beauty of nature to recharge ourselves.

But neither a beach during vacation time nor airports are hardly relaxing environments. Add some screaming kids and your vacation is perfect. Or is this some form of "positive stress’ some people are talking about?

Time to roast again

modern_time_for_roasting

Summer, sunshine, sunburns …

It’s amazing how much chemicals we spill each year to avoid the effects of soaring sunlight on our skins. And how much more we waste on treating sunburns.

Why not simply move OUT of the sunlight to avoid damage to your precious pale office complexion? Or pre-roast yourself before dragging your sorry ass into the sun? Going from pale cavemen to roasted super model in just 14 days is not recommended.

Thrill Tourism - please excite me with dangerous stuff so I feel alive

modern_thrill_tourism

The modern Homo Officium needs some real thrills when he goes on vacation. Corporate life is boring and only real danger can make him feel alive.

The Structure of European Cities vs American Cities

modern_american_vs_european_cities

I am always amused when some of my American friends come to Europe and get lost by our chaotic cities and streets. If you look at schematics above of American and European cities you immediately see how straight and orderly most cities in the new world are. Very different to the of thousand of years old and “organically” grown Euro cities …

Virgin Galactic starts affordable Space Tourism in 2010

science_homer_in_space

… and it all depends how you define affordable? But I think $200,000 is doable for a person from an industrial country - if that is your life’s dream. Compared to 20 Million Dollars for a flight with the Russians it’s really cheap.

And I am sure once the industry gets off the ground - it will start a competition and prices will come down.

Underwater Tourism

nature_fish_and_underwater_photographer

It is amazing how much effort people put into visiting fish and water mammals like dolphins and whales. If we continue to eat, pollute and destroy their habit as effective as in the last 200 years there won’t be much to see in a short time.
