My personal enemy - the flu virus

personal_flu_virus

I am currently fighting a nasty flu - so my blogging is currently stopped because of slime, fever and general unpleasantness in my brain. Will continue after my chemical surge has eradicated the virus extremists and their sympathizers!

This is the 1.000th Posting

blogosphere_posting_1000

This blog started just four months ago in September - since than it has been a regular pleasure to write on an almost daily basis. First I recycled many old favorite postings from previous three reincarnations of the orangeblog. But since November it was mostly new material.

Thanks to Edosan, who helped to reboot my brain after my one year blogging abstinence. Other long time supporters include RichMc, Judi, Leonardo, Andrew, staticbrain, mrbalihai, blogotronic, moon, Jolene, Dave, mo and zoee.

Via StumbleUpon I have made many new friends and regular readers: like Judefa, Lisabal, Mayamoi, anotsoperfectstranger, zichi, neugen, xtine, Shelly41, Jackanapes, lucecorner … (hope I haven’t forgotten anyone?). Plus some new reader and commentators like trang. I am sure there are some other regular  visitors out there who haven’t commented - so I don’t know you by name yet - also thanks to you …

Blog Updates

blogosphere_update

Instead of blogging something - I finally made the update to WordPress 2.3.1 - which included the usual screaming and shouting when something doesn’t work out of the box. It’s certainly not WP’s fault - it’s just the complexity and fuckups created by plugins and custom made code … after several hours of tweaking and bitching (I hope) everything is working again.

New Tags

Every postings gets now tagged with keywords. I try to keep my usage of keywords consistent. But I haven’t finished crawling through 800+ postings and tagging each one of them. The categories for Classic & Asian Art are done - and I think it’s worth the extra effort, because it allows my readers to browse the blog in new ways.

Under each posting (on the single pages) you find a list of all tags related to that entry. You can click these tags and find related posts.

New Related Posts

In addition to the tags you find also related posts under each entry (on their individual pages). I already implemented that function some time ago - but it didn’t work without proper tagging - but we are slowly getting there …

New Tag Cloud

On the right sidebar you find a nice & trendy tag cloud, which shows you the most used tags. If a keyword is used a lot the tag appears bigger.

My Questions to you

I am just wondering if anyone is missing a search function to dig up certain topics, keywords or entries? I removed it a long time ago - but I am happy to implement it again - IF anyone is using it. So please leave a comment if you want it …

Any other functions you are missing? I always happy to improve my blog! Thanks for your input.

PS: If you like or dislike an entry please do me the honors and rate it by clicking the little star under each postings. I am a slut for feedback! ;-)

Update: Found an even better tag cloud plugin with more control. Did some more tagging - which is very time consuming.

No new Postings until my Blog is moved this Saturday

blogo_mover_guys

Since the server this blog is living on has some serious problems my ISP is moving my account to a better machine. This will happen tonight (so they say). I just want to wait and see if all will work normally again after the move - so keep your fingers crossed.

So new postings on Saturday - or I have to rebuild the broken blog.

Let’s hope the digital Gods are in a good mood!

I hereby give myself the first prize!

blogosphere_winner_prize

Since there are so many stupid and meaningless blog awards out there I simply create my own!

I hereby give myself the high honors of winning the first place as the best orangeblog of all orangeblogs. I like to thank my mother, my mouse and my operating system.

Finally some Spam!

blogosphere_spam_can_small

Now I really feel like running a proper Blog again. I just had my first Spam-Wave. Isn’t that nice? It took the spam bots just four days to find me and post their crap?

Well done!

Technorati

blogo_technocrati

Oh boy, this site used to be once the hottest contender in ruling the blogosphere. Today technorati is slow, buggy and simply awkward to use. For example it still listed all my old blogs, although I had deleted my claims and ONLY entered ultraorange.net as my new one.

It’s ‘What’s popular?’ page is simply boring and looks more like an extension of YouTube.

Sad, very sad.

CoComment

blogo_coComment

I have implemented cocomment.com into the blog. It’s a tool that allows you to track all the comments you have made on different blogs and sites - and see any new comments on the cocomment website.

If you a proper citizen of the blogosphere then get yourself an account on cocomment and install the firefox plugin to do the tracking almost automatic.

If you are just a casual surfer … just ignore the technobabble.

Robots & Spiders

blogo_robots_spiders

This is amazing. When I reopened the blog yesterday it was immediately crawled by dozens of robots and spiders from a gazillion search engines, blog directories and I guess nasty spammers.

So I have more robotic readers then real huuuumaaans.

Good to know.
