Boris Johnson the new Major of London - please say it ain’t so

wa_boris_johnson

I always have loved London - what a great city. When London reelected “Red Ken” as it’s Major I was thrilled. But after eight years Londoners wanted to kick Gordon Brown for his miserable job and kicked out good old Ken and elected the weird ‘Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson’ instead. Oh, the tragedy …

Boris has been more on television in game shows in actually running any tiny local anything so far. Even George W. Bush had more experience running ’something’ than Boris. His political view are terrible - when he presented the TV documentary The Dream of Rome his remarks and historical conclusion were way of the scale.

He is an old school populist born in the wrong century. He would have loved living during the 17th or 18th century - the heydays of the British Empire. But - dear Boris - these days are long gone …

Bill Maher settles Obama’s Bittergate for once and all

After all that bullshit - this expresses my thoughts perfectly (at the last quarter of this video). Thanks Bill!

You are not your families’ opinions

wa_barack-obama-with-his-grandparents

Not everybody grows up with the perfect (grand)parents and in a perfect time. But that’s not important - what’s important that you want to change the presence for a better future.

We all have family members that have weird or simply terrible opinions and convictions. But we can’t be held responsible for that - only for our own actions.

Obama on Race in America

Finally Obama delivered some beef. This is the first speech I have heard from him that got dirty and down to business. No longer all that “feel good” and “come together” crap.

Good for you Sir!

Republican Hypocrisy and Idiocy - how to distract the people while making shitloads of money

I personally think that American right wing attack dogs are very embarrassing for this great nation. They often are the very essence that smears America and has reduced it to a second rate country: greed, incompetence, distraction, war mongering, fear mongering, hate of others and most of all hypocrisy.

The GOP is obsessed with fighting causes that are irrelevant and don’t matter. Who cares if someone can burn the American flag or not? Who cares if gay people can marry or not? Who cares if Obama wear that bloody pin or not?

These issues are (brilliant) distractions from important stuff: America educational system (no child left behind?), the rampant militarism (no money for body armor, but for shiny new Star Wars systems), the pork & waste in Government bills (need a bridge to nowhere dude?) and care for the environment (the jury is still out on global warming and evolution).

The biggest shame is - that so many Americans still listen and CARE for these issues. The dumb discussions really have dumbed down American political culture as well (if you have ever read a speech made by Lincoln or any other great American president you know what this country is capable of).

Populism is certainly not an US invention, but they really made an new artform out of it.

American Elections and all that talk about military strength

wa_osama_bin_laden

All American presidential candidates always reinforce that national mantra of a strong defense and military against all these evildoers out there. The US spends more on defense and espionage than the rest of the world COMBINED.

But there is little or no reflection that the most expensive security and military apparatus has totally failed to destroy Osama bin Laden, the Taliban and Al-Quaeda. Instead America has helped with it’s bad policies and military failures to drive young Muslims in droves to suicide squads and terrorist groups all over the world.

So if Americans really want change - change your military doctrine, reduce the amounts of “security, intelligence agencies - and bases all over the world. If you do that you could CHANGE the current miserable state of your education, social systems and crappy state of your infrastructure.

Change would mean getting rid of that insecure bunker mentality - and accepting that no super weapon can stop hate. Friendship and diplomacy can make friends and sympathy - and this will protect you much better in the long run.

Osama is only dangerous, because people support his cause or are willing to look the other way.

Grandpa vs. young upstart

wa_obama_vs_mccain

Politics is a lot about symbolism. One thing people expect from the leader of the pack is vitality, health and potency. That is why kids and wives are always dragged onto the political stage to prove that these politicians are strong males and provide well for their offspring.

Many pundits and voters perceived McCain (now 71) before the vote as too old. He was considered ’seasoned’ when he ran for the big office back in 2000 against President Shrub.

But in contrast to Obama (aged 46) he is an old fart - and his disability from being tortured in Vietnam doesn’t help either. No matter how often McCain drags his stone old mother onto the political stage - he doesn’t stand a chance against the fresh looking Obama and his jumpy two kids.

The ultimate Republican Weapon: the McCain-Lieberman-Ticket

wa_us_elections_Lieberman-McCain_ticket

After Super Tuesday John McCain seems to be the winner and candidate for the American Republicans to run for President. Although Mike Huckabee is currently #2 I don’t think he will be the running mate as Vice President.

Joe Lieberman has been very happy to ’schmooze’ with the GOP since his recent reelection in 2006 and he is a big buddy of McCain. Plus on many issues he is more hawkish than many Republicans. As an Independent and former Democrat he sure would cover a wide spectrum of votes and interests

I think this can only be countered by a Hillary-Obama-Ticket. But who will take the second seat?

The Return of the dreadful Italian Emperor Berlusconi

wa_return_of_Berlusconi

Italy’s politics has always special in Europe. No other country changes it’s government than Italy. I was so happy when Romano Prodi defeat the corrupt Silvio Berlusconi in last years election.

But Prodi’s government never reached the absolute majority - thanks to the Italian voters and some nasty legislation left behind by Mr Berlusconi. Prodi has lost the last vote of confidence and new elections are ahead.

It is too bad that the voters themselves are to blame here for year of bad government in recent years and probably many years ahead under Berlusconi.

Italy has one of the worst if not currently the worst economy in Europe. Thanks to Berlusconi and bad politics.

Veracifier: "We need God in our governments!"

From the American Frontline of Christianity. Uneducated people are terrible for any Democracy, ignorant religious people are it’s death. It doesn’t matter if you think Allah, Jesus or George Bush are your savior - the religious mind simply is closed to ‘reality’ and ‘common sense’.

Watching videos like that it is hard to stay ‘tolerant’ and open to religious freedom (by the way I feel the same watching fundamentalist Muslims, Buddhist or Esoterics).

It once again shows that GOOD education is essential to keep a society and it’s members open to social progress and change. Many religious and overly conservative people stick to ‘eternal’ truths, because they are afraid of change,  other cultures and new ways of life.
